MIXED USE: Broadway and Icon Galleries | Fresno, CA | Built
To meet the needs of local gallery artists in downtown Fresno, two galleries were developed within the Broadway Studios Building to compliment the 25 artist studios housed in the former auto parts store. The Icon Gallery features a slender plan one step up from street level. A contorted building entry corridor provides disables access to the second point of entry to the Gallery that connects to the Studio spaces at the building’s interior. A mezzanine developed above toilets and a small kitchenette serves as an office/conference area that overlooks the gallery floor below. The Broadway Gallery is larger than the Icon Gallery and serves as a reception space for "ArtHop" events and other temporary shows. A conference room off the main display space extends the range of program uses and functions that can be accommodated in the Broadway Studios Building. The developer collaborated with mural artists to create large scale public urban art pieces that define the exterior character of the building. Ornamental metal art pieces adorn the entry court and street façade of the building.
