Envisioned as a new civic hub in Old Town Clovis, Landmark Square is a collaborative project that brings together the County of Fresno and the City of Clovis. It is situated on the site of the historic Clovis Lumber Yard, near the termination of the landmark flume that supplied the lumber industry in Clovis’s formative years.

Heralding the lumber industry’s role in helping launch the City of Clovis, PHA conceived the project’s architectural character to embrace and respect the role of lumber and the craft of carpentry. In homage to the historic lumber yard, the exterior walls are clad in treated cedar and repurposed corrugated metal roofing panels from the original structure.

The complex features a new Senior Center and Transit Center, operated by the City of Clovis. This civic investment replaces outdated facilities and provides programming to meet the needs of the entire community. PHA was selected by the City of Clovis in 2016 to master plan the project and design the Senior Center and Transit Center, as well as the surrounding site work. The County will design and construct the library in accordance with the overall site Master Plan as envisioned by PHA.

The 29,000-square-foot Senior Center offers space for various activities, including art, yoga, dance classes, a fitness room, a billiards room, meeting rooms, and numerous areas for socializing. A large multipurpose room and kitchen support daily lunches and are available for community and private events. The 7,200-square-foot Transit Center serves as the hub for the City of Clovis Transit Department, featuring administrative offices, ticket sales spaces, waiting areas, and a large community room.

Program, form, material, and detail come together to create buildings that are contemporary expressions of the times in which we live, while respecting the history of the place where we live.
