Stephanie Say

Senior Architect

Stephanie has known since middle school that she wanted to be an architect—even though the job turned out to be almost entirely different from her younger perception.

After becoming licensed, Stephanie moved from generally assisting on various phases of projects to managing projects from start to finish. She works on everything from initial programming and design to construction, developing strong relationships with clients along the way. Stephanie coordinates a design team of various consultants and engineers, as well as working with our in-house team, all while collaborating with and understanding various parameters and regulations from the client, user, agencies, and stakeholders.

Her passion is researching precedents and studying historic examples to apply concepts in innovative designs.  Integrating historic ideas with new creativity, Stephanie focuses on the larger picture–how the building scale will influence the context and vice versa. She especially enjoys being a resource and mentor to others in the office as they go through the licensing process, and she hopes to live up to her own mentors’ legacy.

On the weekends, Stephanie is a wedding photographer, and she loves that her architectural education contributes to her chosen creative outlet. The overlap of project management, creativity, composition, and adaptability between these two fields has helped her develop skills that contribute to growth in both areas.

Education & Certifications

Stephanie was born and raised in the Valley, but left to attend school at the University of Arizona, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s of Architecture with Honors, Cum Laud. Soon after, she returned to her hometown and began working at PHA with hopes of making a positive impact in her community. In 2016, she participated in and graduated from Downtown Academy in Fresno, which is a community exposure program to network and explore the history and architecture of the area. This experience inspired a passion for revitalization and fostering support for a downtown area that has some persistent negative stereotypes. She became licensed in California as an Architect in 2018 and is an AIA member.

Community Engagement

Stephanie has been a volunteer at the Well Community Church since 2014, leading life groups, children's Sunday school, and serving at events.

Working tunes

“Country....everyone in the office gives me a hard time!”

Favorite PHA project

“In 2014, we started a conceptual design and feasibility study for The Fresno Public Market. Although it is moving slowly, the beginning stages of the unique program and ideal downtown site make it an exciting catalyst for future development along an already revitalized Fulton Street corridor.”

One food forever

“Jalapeno chips!”

Described as

“Easygoing, kind-hearted, and addicted to home renovations. (Whoops… Proof that architecture doesn't end at 5 p.m.!)”
